WILD SWIMMING EXPERIENCES

Dan New Headshot

Vernal Equinox

Spring is a time to rebalance and look forward to the reawakening of nature. This seasonal progression not only brings with it new life to the natural environment, but also deeper spiritual shifts. It is a time to emerge from the shell of winter and seek out new beginnings.

This year our wild swimming event is coinciding with the Latha na Caillich, or Day of the Old Woman. The Cailleach is the spiritual personification of winter, and the 25th of March is the day that she finally gives up her struggle in opposing the oncoming of spring - earrach. She lays down her staff which she has been using to bring barrenness to whatever it touched throughout the winter months.

We are offering the opportunity for you to connect with nature in the purest sense whilst exploring open water skills and comprehensive approaches to cold conditioning, acclimatisation and swimming in open water. The emphasis of this experience will be on preparation and recovery.

Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th March 2024

Why not make a special weekend of it and stay overnight with discounted rates for each night of your stay. We also invite you to a complimentary whisky tasting session on the Saturday evening hosted by our resident whisky ambassador David, before your well-deserved and relaxing dinner in our two AA Rosette restaurant.

Whispering Cow Walks, Highland Fold Ice Cream

Calf 003

At The Pierhouse we are delighted with the relationships that we have with our local suppliers and incredibly proud to be able to showcase their amazing produce. Jane Isaacson from the Highland Fold in Barcaldine supplies us with ice-cream made from the milk of her Highland Cattle. Throughout the summer months Jane is offering guided Whispering Cow Walks around the farm.

This is a wonderful opportunity to boost your happy hormones by visiting her fold of Highland Cattle in their natural environment. These walks allow you to see the cows relaxing on their own turf, and to learn about the breed, their ice-cream, and of course their wonderful Highland home. Walks will run to the end of November; booking is essential.
