Janet Lees and Rab Woods present a new duo set including original compositions, modern trad and some well-loved traditional songs and tunes, with influences reaching from home into the North Atlantic and Nordic regions.

Fiddle player Janet Lees is a founder member of Corran Raa and has performed at many of Scotland’s best loved festivals. She is known for her energetic and lyrical playing style with a big tone.

Equally at home on the accompaniment, lead or vocals, Rab Woods is a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist renowned locally for producing great music with the Hollow Mountain String Band, Kings Road and the Woods Family “Tonic”.

Rab is also a very talented composer and has been busy this winter writing new music to suit the dynamic of the Argyll based duo, featuring vocals, fiddle, mandolin, guitar and cittern. Although not all will be played at once!

Founded in 2022 by renowned Scottish musician Mairi Campbell following Covid, the aim of the band was to help sustain community spirit and revive the tradition of dancing on the island. They have been so successful that in 2023 they were nominated for Community Project of the Year at Na Trads - the Scots Trad Music Awards.

Back at The Pierhouse for a second year, Michael Cassidy is a singer songwriter from Paisley whose music is best described as contemporary folk/pop. He cites a great variety of influences ranging from Folk heavyweights such as Richard Thompson and John Martyn to more contemporary acts such as Rufus Wainwright and Laura Marling. He is the inaugural winner of the Gerry Rafferty songwriting award - with his song 'The men who stood beside me in the war'.
