Sat in the restaurant for lunch looking out over the autumnal colours of Scotland. The emerald green and the beautiful browns. The food...oysters Kilpatrick, huge starter portion of 6, delicious. For me, mussels done with a glorious smokey flavour. Followed by a generous plate of salmon, fresh vegetables cooked to a lovely crunch and no more and fennel dauphinoise. Didn't stay at the hotel, we initially called here for a coffee one afternoon (great coffee, by the way) and having looked at the dinner menu decided to celebrate my birthday that evening at the Pierhouse. Wasn't disappointed - everything was perfect. The service, food and wine were superb. I wish this restaurant was closer to my home - we'd be regular customers. Recommended. OBx2, Nov 16
Return to serenity
Like the crisp and dry Autumn weather this week, so was the Sauvignon we had with our sea bass. A tremendously tasty reward after a 55 mile cycle on Ardnamurchan, the Pierhouse delivers what it always delivers... Friendly welcome and great seafood. We had salmon and prawn kebabs and sea bass. Calm pastels and warm environment. Bliss. The gin selection is expanding with a terrific selection of Scottish gins... Crossbill was a new one for us. We will be back. We had lunch in the restaurant which was fabulous - I have to say probably the freshest and creamiest oysters I have ever had and meaty large langoustines. Seafood 'Par Excellence'
If ever there was a 'Dream Location to be able to enjoy ultra fresh seafood of all descriptions form within a few mile radius of the restaurant then The Restaurant at the Pierhouse Hotel , Port Appin is the one!! Enjoy locally sourced Langoustines, Fresh Lobsters, prawns etc. all from close by are on hand to titillate the discerning palate!!! The view from the Dining Room is just fantastic as one gazes over the water were most of the seafood has been caught. Add a drop of Malt whisky and your evening is complete! Wills1389uk, Sept 16
Freshest Scottish seafood in a wonderful place
Arriving in the midst of a storm; we arrived to roaring open fire and to generous welcome. This restaurant is part of The Seafood Trail which the menu is a true testament to - fish, oyster and seafood though a steak is available. We ordered a seafood platter and there was no problem to exchange the oyster (which we don't like) to a beautiful salmon mousse. On arrival of the platter; an introduction and guide to the platter before we indulge in the best seafood we ever have had. Truly amazing. Sol-Dev, Sept 16
Dining in surround scene

Paradise on a plate
A lovely friendly welcome, an enticing small bar, a seafood restaurant which serves "paradise on a plate" for breakfast and dinner whilst you sit transfixed by incredible views through the huge windows, what's not to like?! Back for a lovely lunch again!
This is the 3rd time I have visited this gem of a restaurant, to be strictly accurate we had a bar meal the 1st time which was so good that it prompted us to return and dine in the restaurant proper. If you are a seafood lover you will be in 7th heaven. We now will always make a point of visiting when in the area. Scallops, lobsters, langoustines, oysters are all available in various different guises, service and ambience are great too. All I can add is please keep doing what you are doing and we will be back. Top marks for breakfast
After a sound nights sleep in a quiet & comfy bed, breakfast next morning was just fab. The full Scottish (top marks for serving it with both black pudding and haggis, the quickest way to my heart!) was exemplary, with both the grilled tomatoes and sautéed mushrooms being notably flavoursome - I get the feeling that produce is well understood in this kitchen. Beautiful retreat with gourmet experience
We sat outside on their patio on the first afternoon we arrived in the warm sunshine overlooking the loch and drinking really decent Scottish artisan gin. It could not get more perfect for me than that!
The food in the evening is exceptional and they have an extensive seafood menu. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was fantastic. We were sat at a table next to the large windows with a wonderful views of the loch and the setting sun. Debworthy, June 16
Want to go back!
We dropped into this hotel for a light lunch, sitting at an outside table with a view of the loch. We chose Cullen Skink, which for those who don't know is a creamy fish soup, and I have to say it's the best Cullen Skink I've ever tasted. Based on the delicious food and excellent service it's on my list to stay the night next time we're in Scotland. Can't wait to try dinner in the restaurant! Tony G, June 16
Lovely bar food
Excellent selection in the bar where nothing seems to be any trouble to the staff. Fabulous views watching the little ferry come in and out. A warm welcome, exquisite cuisine and the most outstanding surroundings...
Having worked up an appetite on Scotland's finest coast, the feast that follows is the reason so many return to The Pierhouse Hotel. I'm not a food connoisseur but I would challenge anyone to find fault here. The produce is all Scottish, the seafood is local and it is simply divine. We were in heaven and with the evenings becoming lighter outside the views from the dining room are as good as it gets. CraigP, April 16
...The food was something else though, we had the Cullen Skink to start which was lovely, followed by the Grand Seafood Platter, words can't adequately describe what that was like - lobster, langoustines, scallops, oysters, mussels, smoked salmon, hot roast salmon etc, you get the idea. Incredible weekend break
I have stayed at a lot of hotels on the West Coast and eaten at many of the restaurants it has to offer but have never received quite the same quality of service or food/drink for that matter as I did at the Pierhouse. The food could not have been more fresh (highly recommend the seafood platter!) and the barman's knowledge of the local ales and whiskey was fantastic. James M, March 16
Lovely people offering more than lovely food
I can't decide what was better, the food or the scenery. Luckily I didn't have to choose as I enjoyed a homemade burger and a pint of best whilst watching the sun bouncing off the water, slowly disappearing behind the mountains. We booked here for our Christmas meal and what a superb choice we made. The hotel were extremely helpful and a mix and match of their festive menu and al la carte menu was no problem. The seafood selection was great, lovely scallops. Surf and turf was delicious and a request for dressed langoustines was accommodated. Venison was very tasty and the turkey main course was one of the best I have ever seen. Puddings were a delight. Wine flowed freely and a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Cosy haven for good food and refreshment
We usually go into the Pierhouse for drinks and their delicious soups when out walking around Port Appin.The Cullen Skink Soup is fantastic and a real winter warmer with crusty buttered bread.Their tasty home baking and hot chocolates are also delicious.The staff give you a warm welcome as do the cosy log fired stoves in the bar and lounge areas. There is also the bonus of stunning views over the water to the island of Lismore. Wonderful, friendly and totally relaxing inn
This place is precious. The silence hits you from your room. The water lapping on the shore and the mountains all around. Simply wonderful!! The food is excellent both in the restaurant and in the wonderfully atmospheric bar. The seafood is superb, a must try are the mussels with smoked salmon. The waiter who served us at both the evening meal and for breakfast was extremely friendly and the service is excellent. Breakfast is also very good, sat watching the fish farmers go to their boats to start the day and the little passenger ferry leaving for Lismore on the hour! Absolutely perfect. Top Drawer Seafood
I stopped here for lunch during a cycle trip around the West Coast. It has been recommended to me on many occasions by friends and family, so I had been looking forward to it immensely - it did not disappoint. Indulging slightly, I had the Pier House Seafood Platter, a delicious smorgasbord of all the riches of the surrounding Lochs. Delicious! In my opinion it was definitely worth the price tag. And of course, the views from the restaurant are lovely. What a beautiful place. We stayed here for five days and ate in the restaurant each night. The staff, the room, the food, the wine, the whole atmosphere were all first rate. Great spot with a great view
We went here for a drink after completing a boat tour and stayed for a late afternoon plate of local mussels which were fantastic and some of the best we've had. The staff were very friendly and the location is simply stunning next the water. Based on our experience we would highly recommend this restaurant. SalandBrad, July15
Over the moon
Three of us visited your Restaurant for lunch on the above date and I feel I must let you know that we were over the moon with the food and the service that we received. We had visited you on the spur of the moment last year and had eaten in the bar where we sampled the delights of your fish pie and Cullen Skink. We had a lovely three course lunch with coffee and everything was just perfect. I must make a point of mentioning your waiter, I am sorry I don't know his name, however he is from the Czech Republic, so that may help you to identify him!! He was so friendly and efficient and is a credit to your hotel. Please be assured we will return to sample more delights (the west coast bass was out of this world) when we are in the area again. Seafood from heaven!!
Wow!! Why do Tripadvisor only give you 1 to 5 stars to choose from?? Can't I give 6 stars?! We've eaten from both the bar and the restaurant menus and are totally impressed! The Pierhouse Platter is amazing and the lobster is out of this world! Perfect service and perfect ambience! Great choice of whisky and where better to sit with a pint of Belhaven and watch the loch go by! The best seafood we've tasted by far anywhere in the UK! A TripAdvisor Member, June15
My husband decided we must check out Oban while we were in Scotland. It's a three hour drive from where we were staying so he looked for a highly rated seafood place along the route and that's how we found Pierhouse. Best decision in a long time! The food was delicious. The service was awesome (I.e. they don't rush you like American wait staff do and I can say that because I'm American!). They made every effort to keep our two year old happy. Well worth any detour to taste the wonderful culinary delights
The setting is idyllic, looking across to Lismore with the ferry pier in the foreground. The busy Restaurant is busy for a very good reason - it serves high quality, good value food. Whether you choose from local seafood or meat the food is delicious. The serving staff were very helpful and friendly in explaining the details of some of the dishes we enquired about, and also made time to have a wee chat too. Perfect Seafood, top location
Just spent a week in Port Appin and frequented the Pierhouse on a few occasions. A quick lunch of very tasty skink and sandwich, hot chocolates after a walk in the rain, a couple of pints to refresh after cycling on Lismore and finally end of holiday dinner of the seafood platter; exquisite mussels, fine scallops and mixture of quality seafood. Another Fantastic Visit
We have been visiting The Pierhouse, mainly to dine, for the last 18 years or so. We've always had a great time- a cosy old pier-master's house, looking directly at the pier- and beyond to the Island of Lismore and the mountains.And then there's the friendly staff who make The Pierhouse work. And then there's the food and drink- this has to be one of the best sea-food restaurants in Scotland. On Saturday, my wife and I came for dinner, and brought our daughter and son for the first time. When we arrived, we discovered that part of our bill had already been taken care of by my parents as a gift(many thanks, Mum and Dad!) and so there was really only one thing to order- the Giant Seafood Platter. Oh, wow. It really never disappoints- there's lobster; scallops;mussels; smoked and roasted salmon; langoustines; and oysters. And all locally sourced( in some cases, about fifty feet away). My daughter had venison, and my son had the Surf and Turf- again, all delicious. Many thanks to Nicky, the chefs, and staff for creating a memorable evening for my family. N Dunlop, April15

Lovely Location, Fabulous Food.

Lovely small hotel, stunning surroundings
We ate in the more formal seafood restaurant one night - try the seafood platter! and also enjoyed a more relaxed meal in the Ferry Bar the following evening, which was just as tasty (and a huge portion!). We also enjoyed a nightcap by the fire in the cosy snug in the lounge. Hazdl, Jan 14
