I am delighted to report that I successfully made it around the 87 mile route on the Isle of Mull in support of Help for Heroes, raising money for our wounded servicemen and women from Iraq and Afghanistan. Despite 24 degrees and an altitude variation of 2600 metres I improved my time from 2013 to finish in 6 hours 35 minutes coming in 77th out of 161 riders. (Thanks in the main to a much better bike than usual!)
I am also very pleased to say that I have now raised £4,969 of my £5,000 target figure set back in 2011, so I am slowly but surely closing in on my objective thanks to all you very kind people who have so kindly donated over the years. The photos show before and after the event in Tobermory taken with my fellow team mates, including Jonathan Moseley who I served with in 4th Royal Tank Regiment as a young officer and who is my regular partner in this event. (He is rather quicker than me and finished 17th!)
I would like to add a big thank you to Sue & Phil Lane who were a brilliant support crew, meeting me on the summits of various mountains with gallons of cold water to douse me down! Without them I think I might have over-heated and blown a head gasket!
If anyone reading this Blog would like to support this excellent cause then here is the link to my Just Giving page and any donation will be very much appreciated.
Many thanks again for all your support.
